NHRTL Denounces Supreme Court Decision on Partial Birth Abortion
"Today's Supreme Court decision is a chilling statement about who we are as a
society and where that society is headed," said Philip Morrison, President of
New Hampshire Right to Life. "In today's ruling, the Court has condoned a
procedure that is nothing less than infanticide. It is inconceivable that the Supreme
Court could believe that the Constitution could condone such a procedure. This decision
is an indication that our society is on the road to barbarism."
Mr. Morrison made these comments in response to the Supreme Court's
ruling that the Nebraska law banning the abortion procedure known as
Partial Birth Abortion is unconstitutional.
Ellen Kolb, the organization's legislative director, stated that this ruling "will
let abortionists know that anything goes - there will be no legal restrictions
on how the abortionist manages to produce a dead baby." She also stated that,
although this ruling was disappointing, "it will not change our goal of total
protection for mother and child."
According to Morrison, "in its infamous Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized
abortion-on-demand, the Supreme Court stated, 'we need resolve the difficult
question of when life begins.' However, they did just that, effectively declaring
unborn babies to be non-persons, when they declared that a woman has a 'right' to
kill her unborn child. Today's ruling extends that non-person status to babies
who are essentially born. Where will it end?"
"History is replete with examples of societies and religious sects which sacrificed
their children on the altar to their god," said Morrison. "They did it in hopes
of appeasing their god in order to gain victory over a foe, stem disease or famine, or
assure prosperity for their society. Today, we look back on societies that performed
those acts as nothing less than barbaric. How, then, can we say that we are
anything less if we are willing to sacrifice children in the very act of being
born on the altar of 'choice.'"
